At Ike Jon Goldens we ask that you delay spaying or neutering you dog until they are at least 2 years old.  Many studies have shown that delaying can lessen the risk of hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament tears, other bone and joint abnormalities, and some cancers.  It is much better for your puppy to go through puberty with all their hormones.  The study linked below from AKC found that this is especially the case with Golden Retrievers.
